KATHMANDU: A high-level delegation from the European Union has arrived in Nepal for a two-day visit aimed at strengthening ties with the new government led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah.
The delegation includes 22 ambassadors and deputy heads of mission from EU member states.
According to the EU Delegation to Nepal, the visit, taking place from May 25 to 26, is intended to reaffirm the bloc’s longstanding partnership with Nepal and explore new areas of cooperation.
The delegation comprises representatives from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.
As part of the visit, the delegation is scheduled to hold high-level meetings with Nepal’s political leadership.
Prime Minister Shah is scheduled to meet the delegation on Tuesday.
The visiting diplomats held talks with Minister for Foreign Affairs Shisir Khanal, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Khadak Raj Paudel, and Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel.
The delegation is also holding meetings with private sector representatives, civil society leaders, and youth groups during the visit.
Ambassador Lorenzo said the mission reflected the EU’s commitment to Nepal and its readiness to work with the new government on development priorities, trade, investment, climate action and multilateral cooperation.
“We are here to congratulate the new government, reaffirm our support for Nepal’s development priorities, and explore new avenues for cooperation,” she said in a statement issued by the EU Delegation to Nepal.
The EU remains one of Nepal’s largest development partners, supporting projects related to inclusive economic growth, democratic governance, education and sustainable development in cooperation with government institutions, civil society and the private sector.
