Trekkers advised to avoid Manaslu Circuit trail following floods

KATHMANDU: The District Administration Office, Gorkha, has urged trekkers to avoid the Manaslu Circuit trekking trail until further notice following flooding in the Namrung area of Gorkha.

The District Administration Office, Gorkha, issued an urgent notice on Sunday after a flood at Namrung, Chumnubri Rural Municipality-4, early Sunday morning damaged bridges along the trekking trail.

The administration has urged concerned agencies, local residents and others to share information about the condition of the affected area and has asked trekkers not to proceed until the situation is assessed.

The Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP) has also issued an advisory to trekkers, visitors, local residents and tourism stakeholders following the Gorkha administration’s notice.

MCAP has urged trekkers currently preparing for or undertaking the Manaslu Circuit Trek to postpone their trips until further notice.

“For your safety, please avoid crossing damaged bridges, river sections, and other hazardous areas. Trekkers and concerned stakeholders are requested to follow official safety instructions and coordinate with local authorities, security personnel, and MCAP before travelling through the affected areas,” MCAP said in a notice.

The Manaslu region, which welcomed around 15,000 trekkers in 2015, is one of the popular trekking regions in the country.
