KATHMANDU: The District Administration Office, Darchula, has issued a public alert following a landslide that partially dammed the Chaulani (Chamelia) River at Bhattar in Apihimal Rural Municipality–1.
“As the landslide is continuing to deposit debris into the river, there is a high risk of complete blockage. This has raised concerns of potential flash floods downstream,” the notice issued by the Darchula administration reads.
“People living along the riverbank areas, as well as relevant disaster response agencies, have been urged to maintain high vigilance to minimize potential loss of life and property.”
The Chamelia originates in the Api Himal region and meets the Mahakali River, which flows through the border of Nepal and India, at Serabagar in Baitadi.
