KATHMANDU: Chaudhary Group (CG) Chairperson and lawmaker Binod Chaudhary met Microsoft co-founder and billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates in Singapore on Tuesday.
According to a statement issued by CG, the two met on the sidelines of the 2025 Philanthropy Asia Alliance and held a discussion on the need to address critical challenges in Nepal’s healthcare and employment sectors, and explored avenues for collaboration with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Chaudhary expressed gratitude for the Gates Foundation’s support during Nepal’s 2015 earthquakes and the COVID-19 pandemic. He also highlighted the contributions of the “Baliyo Nepal” campaign, implemented in collaboration with the Gates Foundation, to child nutrition.
The meeting also focused on deepening the foundation’s decade-long partnership in Nepal’s social sector.
The Chaudhary Foundation, the CSR arm of CG, played an important role post-2015 earthquake, constructing nearly 3,000 earthquake-resistant temporary shelters, rebuilding schools and distributing food and water. During the pandemic, it strengthened Nepal’s health infrastructure by establishing ICU facilities at Bir Hospital, oxygen plants in Dhanagadhi and Surkhet, and distributing oxygen concentrators, PPE, PCR kits, and N95 masks across all seven provinces, according to the statement.
The 2025 PAA summit, attended by global leaders like Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and Gates, aims to foster collaboration among philanthropic organizations for sustainable development and social justice in Asia.
