KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to allow those who have not updated their party membership to participate in its 15th General Convention.
A meeting of the party’s Central Work Execution Committee on Sunday decided to allow members who renewed their membership for the 15th General Convention but failed to update it to participate in the convention, except those who have violated party discipline, left the party or died, party spokesperson Devraj Chalise said.
Party leaders said the provision was one of the conditions set by former Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka, who is reportedly moving closer to the party establishment.
Khadka has reportedly distanced himself from the dissident faction after former President Sher Bahadur Deuba picked Shashank Koirala to prepare for the general convention.
The party also decided to mobilize its organizational machinery more effectively in search, rescue, relief and reconstruction efforts following the Bhotekoshi floods and landslides.
The meeting decided to provide the government with necessary policy and practical recommendations for the flood- and landslide-affected areas and to intensify rescue and relief operations being carried out by the party.
For this purpose, all levels of the party’s organizational structures, sister organizations and well-wisher organizations will be mobilized in affected settlements and dedicated to serving local residents, spokesperson Chalise said.
The meeting also decided to formally advise Prime Minister Balendra Shah on the issues of climate justice, disaster management and national interests that Nepal should raise at the upcoming United Nations General Assembly.
