KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Home Affairs has formed a committee to conduct a needful study and suggest measures on how good governance, prosperity, and social justice, as well as the targets taken by the government, can be made more effective.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha formed the 10-member team, led by former Chief Secretary Lilamani Paudyal, to enhance the work performance of units under the home ministry. The committee will study Nepal Police, Armed Police Force (APF), prison management, immigration management, disaster reduction management, and national ID management, among others.

The committee held its first meeting on Monday and formed thematic sub-committees to conduct needful studies and make suggestions. Former secretaries Sharad Chandra Paudyal, Laxmi Prasad Dhakal, and Shankar Prasad Koirala lead the immigration management, prison management, and local administration service delivery sub-committees, respectively. IG Prakash Aryal leads the Nepal Police sub-committee, and former APF IG Singh Bahadur Shrestha leads the APF sub-committee. The sub-committee has been given three months to complete their work. Members nominated to the committee will not receive any perks or remuneration from the state coffers and will work voluntarily, according to the ministry.
