KATHMANDU: More than Rs 1.91 billion has been collected in the PM Disaster Relief Fund in 36 hours
According to the Ministry of Finance, the amount was deposited into the fund from Wednesday noon to Thursday midnight.
Donors deposited the amount into accounts maintained at 10 commercial banks, according to the ministry.
The government has declared the flood-affected areas disaster-hit following the devastating flooding in the Bhotekoshi River along the Nepal-China border on Wednesday morning. The floods caused significant loss of life and property.
Donations from individuals and organizations began pouring into the relief fund after the government solicited donations for relief and rehabilitation of flood victims.
The government has designated the Ministry of Finance as the focal ministry for collecting and coordinating donations to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund. Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle has been personally receiving institutional donations of Rs 10 million or more.
Individuals can also visit the ministry to provide cash donations to the fund.
With the latest contributions, the fund’s balance has reached Rs 4.091 billion.
On Thursday, private-sector donors in Nepal contributed Rs 273.3 million through the ministry over six hours.
The amount does not include funds pledged by various friendly countries.
