
KATHMANDU: The foundation stone for a new hostel building and canteen block at Shree Dibya Deep Secondary School in Lomanthang Rural Municipality, Mustang, was laid on Sunday.
Prasanna Shrivastava, deputy chief of mission at the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu and Tasi Nharbu Gurung, chairperson of Lomanthang Rural Municipality, jointly laid the foundation stone, according to a statement issued by the Embassy of India on Sunday.
The project, which is estimated to cost Rs 37.6 million, is being supported under the Government of India’s ‘Nepal-India Development Cooperation’ initiative. It will include student hostels, restrooms, a dining hall and kitchen facilities.
The school is the only high school in Upper Mustang and serves students from both Lomanthang and Loghekar Damodar Kunda Rural Municipalities.
Shrivastava also inspected a dormitory project underway at the Lowo Nyiphug Namdrol Norbuling Monastic School in Lomanthang which is also funded by India. He expressed happiness over the growth, expansion and diversification of Nepal-India development partnership over the years.
The Government of India has supported over 570 High Impact Community Development Projects in Nepal since 2003, including 17 in Mustang district alone.
