KATHMANDU: The stock market opened the week with a loss of 19.13 points on Monday.
The index moved into negative territory right after trading began on Monday morning and remained in the red throughout the session, ultimately ending 0.73% lower at 2,599.58 points.
With this, the Nepse index fell below the psychological support level of 2,600 points for the first time since July 16.
Market breadth was heavily negative as 229 stocks declined, 47 advanced, and two remained unchanged on Monday. Total turnover fell to Rs 3.23 billion with 8.57 million units traded through 53,153 transactions.
Among individual stocks, Sarvottam Paints Ltd posted the highest gain of 14.99%. Next were Dhaulagiri Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha and CYC Nepal Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd with gains of 11.98% and 9.14%. On the other hand, Panchakanya Mai Hydropower Ltd posted the biggest loss of 9.83%, followed by Wean Nepal Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd and NIMB Sulav Investment Fund-2 with losses of 8.67% and 8.27%, respectively.
Reliance Spinning Mills Ltd topped the turnover chart with transactions worth Rs 127.28 million. Next were Solu Hydropower Ltd and Sahas Urja Ltd with turnovers of Rs 118.84 million and Rs 106.52 million, respectively.
All trading groups ended the session in the red. The Hydropower sub-index posted the biggest loss of 1.19%. Non-life Insurance was next with a loss of 1.12%, while the Mutual Fund and Finance sub-indices closed 0.8% lower each.
