KATHMANDU: Authorities have arrested a police constable for allegedly sharing on social media a video of a teenager arrested on suspicion of involvement in the rape and murder of three-year-old Garima Chaudhary of Jitpur Simara Sub-metropolitan City in Bara.
The constable was taken into custody for investigation after a video recorded inside the statement room at the District Police Office, Bara, was shared on social media.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Min Bahadur Ghale, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Bara, told Himal Press that the constable had been arrested for allegedly making the video of the teenager giving his statement public.
“The statement taken from an accused cannot be made public. We are investigating what happened and how the video was made public,” he said. “We have detained one constable. Further details will be available shortly.”
The video, recorded inside the statement room while the teenager was giving his statement, has gone viral on social media.
According to the police, five police personnel were seen recording the teenager’s statement.
Based on the teenager’s statement, police have arrested another person on suspicion of involvement in the toddler’s rape and murder.
