Make Lal Commission report public: Thapa

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Kumar Thapa has urged the government to make the Lal Commission report public.

“Since 2016, there have been demands to make public the report of the Lal Commission almost every year. Every time political parties made a commitment to make public the report, but failed to implement it when we reached power,” Thapa wrote in a social media post on Monday.

“Therefore, my request to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers is: Make the Lal Commission report public without any further delay. People have the right to know the truth, and victims have the right to justice.”

The government had formed a high-level judicial probe commission under the leadership of former Supreme Court Justice Girish Chandra Lal in September 2016 to investigate violence, human rights violations and killings during the 2015 Madhesh movement and Tikapur incident.
