KATHMANDU: Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Anil Kumar Sinha has said that the government is fully focused on the upcoming elections as there is no alternative to holding them.
Speaking at the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee of the National Assembly at Singha Durbar on Friday, Sinha stated that the government’s primary focus is on conducting elections to ensure the participation of a new generation in the next House of Representatives.
“Elections are indispensable not only for the constitutional amendment demanded by Gen Z but also for maintaining peace and security in the country. The elections will be held within the stipulated time, no matter what,” Sinha said. “The government has been holding continuous discussions with political parties on election-related matters and expressed confidence that the parties would extend positive cooperation.”
Sinha also said that a detailed investigation is being carried out into the incidents of arson and violence that took place during the Gen Z movement, which, he said, were organised deliberately.
“Since many weapons were looted and prisoners escaped during the protests, it is natural for the public to feel insecure. But security agencies are working seriously and actively to restore peace and order in the country,” he added.
