NC dissident faction’s petition under review: SC

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has not registered a writ petition filed by the dissident faction of the Nepali Congress (NC) seeking a halt in all activities related to the party’s 15th General Convention.

Advocate Shravan Kumar Shrestha and leader Deepak Khakda reached the Supreme Court on Friday afternoon with authorization to act as representatives of outgoing party President Sher Bahadur Deuba and outgoing Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka to register the petition.

The Supreme Court administration has said that the petition is still under review and has not been registered.

The dissident faction has objected to the party’s decision to proceed with the convention process after the Supreme Court granted permission to review its earlier ruling in a dispute over the party’s legitimacy.

The faction has argued that the convention process should not move forward until the dispute over the party’s legitimacy is finally resolved.

According to the Nepali Congress Central Election Committee, ward-level conventions will be held on September 9. The party has decided to hold the 15th General Convention in Kathmandu from October 2 to 5.
