ITAHARI: Koshi Province Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki has won a vote of confidence.
A total of 57 members voted in favor of his motion of confidence at the meeting of the Koshi Provincial Assembly on Monday.
A majority of 47 is needed to form a government in the 93-member Koshi Province Assembly.
Karki, who represents CPN-UML, has the support of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP). UML has 40 members in the provincial assembly, while the NCP has 17.
The NC has 29 members in the provincial assembly. However, only 22 were present in the meeting on Monday. All of them voted against the motion.
Similarly, the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), which has five members including the Speaker, did not participate in the voting.
Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal’s sole provincial assembly member, Nirmala Limbu, was absent.
