POKHARA: The CPN-UML has decided to exit the Gandaki Province Government.
A meeting of UML’s parliamentary board held on Tuesday decided to recall the four ministers from the Gandaki government.
UML sources say the board made the decision after Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey asked UML ministers to resign on moral grounds or face sacking.
Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Management Govind Bahadur Nepali, Minister for Agriculture, Land Management and Cooperatives Bhim Bahadur Karki, Minister for Industry and Tourism Yashoda Rimal, and Minister for Health Laxman Bahadur Pandey currently represent UML in the NC-UML coalition government in Gandaki.
They were appointed on April 15.
UML has formed a new coalition with the Nepali Communist Party (NC) after the NC announced that it was exiting the coalition with UML.
The withdrawal of support by UML, however, will not require Chief Minister Pandey to take a vote of confidence in the provincial assembly as Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and Nepal Samajbadi Party (Naya Shakti) have not withdrawn their support from the government.
NC, which has 27 seats, is the largest party in the 60-member provincial assembly. RPP has two members in the provincial assembly, while Nepal Samajbadi Party (Naya Shakti) has one.
The seat of independent member Rajiv Gurung has become vacant after he was convicted by the court.
