KATHMANDU: It has been revealed that Nepali citizens, who were deported from the United States and brought to Nepal on Wednesday, paid up to Rs 4 million each to reach the US
They disclosed this information during a preliminary investigation by the Human Trafficking Investigation Bureau of the Nepal Police upon their arrival in Kathmandu on Wednesday morning.
“During the initial inquiry, it was found that some Nepalis reached the United States via Brazil and other Latin American countries,” Police Inspector Narendra Kunwar told Himal Press.
He added that these deported youths did not show willingness to file a case against the individuals who sent them to the United States by charging a hefty fee. During the investigation, Kunwar revealed that they spent between Rs 2.7 million and Rs 4 million.
“From the human trafficking perspectives, we asked them some questions. They responded that they reached the United States by contacting multiple agents and many people,” he added.
According to Kunwar, these youths contacted four to five agents to enter the US and paid money to each agent in different countries. “We will now hand these youths over to their families,” he added.
