KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Home Affairs has recalled Sunsari Chief District Officer (CDO) Basudev Ghimire and the heads of security agencies in the district following Sunday night’s deadly incident.

Ghimire has been recalled to the ministry and replaced by Ishwari Prasad Aryal, the Chief District Officer of Sankhuwasabha.

Similarly, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Binod Ghimire, the chief of the Koshi Province Police Office, has been recalled to the Nepal Police Headquarters. DIG Shekhar Khanal has been posted to lead the provincial police office.

Similarly, SP Keshav Thebe, chief of the District Police Office, Sunsari, has been transferred to Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa. He will be replaced by SP Pushparaj Malla, who had been serving at the airport.

The ministry has also recalled Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal SP Shyam Kumar Karki and replaced him with SP Laba Kumar Sapkota from APF Headquarters.

Likewise, APF Nepal DSP Nanda Kishore Mahato, who was stationed in Kaptanganj, has also been recalled. DSP Madan Nath from APF Headquarters has been assigned to replace him.

One person was killed and 22 others were injured when police opened fire to control clashes between two communities in Kaptangunj of Devangunj Rural Municipality-3 of Sunsari on Sunday night.

Ten Nepal Police and five APF Nepal personnel were also injured in the incident.

The ministry has already formed a five-member probe committee, led by Joint Secretary Bhupendra Thapa, to investigate the incident. The committee has been given one week to submit its report.
