ITAHARI: Devanganj Rural Municipality in Sunsari has declared two days of mourning after a man died from police gunfire during a clash between two groups on Sunday night.
The rural municipality announced a two-day mourning period on Monday and Tuesday, expressing grief over the incident that occurred at Kaptanganj market area in Ward-3.
Police say they had to open fire to bring the clash between two communities under control. One person was killed and 22 others, including police personnel, were injured in the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Om Prakash Mehta (24) of Kaptanganj in Devanganj-3. He succumbed to gunshot injuries while undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs has formed a five-member committee to investigate the incident.
