Oli appointed Prime Minister for fourth term

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli has been appointed as the Prime Minister.

President Ram Chandra Paudel appointed Oli as the Prime Minister as per Article 76 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015, according to a press statement issued by the Office of the President on Sunday evening.

After CPN (Maoist Center) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal lost the floor test in the House of Representatives on Friday, Oli, accompanied by Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, staked his claim to form a new government on the same evening.

This is Oli’s fourth term as the Prime Minister. The UML Chairperson was first appointed Prime Minister in October 2015 after the promulgation of the new constitution. He remained in office until August 2016. He enjoyed a near two-thirds majority in his second term from February 2018 to May 2021 after merging his party CPN-UML with CPN (Maoist Center) to form the Nepal Communist Party (NCP).

After the split of NCP, he began his third term in May 2021, which continued till July 2021.

Oli will be sworn in at 11 am on Monday. The Office of the President has already invited members of parliament to attend the swearing-in ceremony at the Office of the President at 11 am on Monday.
