KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index snapped a two-day losing streak on Wednesday, posting a gain of 30.08 points to close trading at 2,754.48. The index has hovered around the 2,700-point level since April 22, which shows a lack of investor participation on the bourse.
The benchmark index moved into the green territory right after trading began on Wednesday. It made a steady climb throughout the session and ultimately endedd 1.1% higher.
Unit prices of 248 scrips increased during the session, while 21 declined and one remained unchanged. Total turnover also improved to Rs 3.82 billion with 10.66 million share units traded through 52,336 transactions.
Among individual stocks, Upper Lohorekhola Hydropower Company hit the 15% positive circuit. On the other hand, Corporate Development Bank Ltd recorded the biggest loss of 13.26%. Despite posting heavy losses, Corporate Development Bank topped the turnover chart with Rs 183.51 million worth of shares traded. Next were Ankhukhola Jalavidyut Company Ltd and Api Power Company Ltd with turnovers of Rs 177.86 million and Rs 113.47 million, respectively.
All trading groups ended the session in the green. Hotels & Tourism and Hydropower sub-indices posted the biggest gain of 1.89% each. Next were Trading and Finance sub-indices with gains of 1.51% and 1.4%, respectively.
