Nepali mission in Yangon celebrates Buddha Jayanti

KATHMANDU: The Embassy of Nepal in Yangon on Saturday organised a Dharma Deshana (Buddhist sermon) and alms-offering program to mark the 2570th Buddha Jayanti.

In the event held at the embassy premises, Ambassador Harishchandra Ghimire lit a ceremonial lamp and offered flowers at a statue of Lord Buddha installed during last year’s Buddha Jayanti celebrations.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Ghimire spoke on the teachings and principles of Lord Buddha. He also highlighted the deep religious and historical ties between Nepal and Myanmar, and recalled the ancient links associated with Lord Buddha’s visit to Myanmar.

Ghimire also informed the participants that Buddha’s hair relic has been preserved at the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon.

On the occasion, Venerable Monk U Kundala and other monks from Hsuhtoopan Pariyatti Monastery in Yangon delivered sermons on the life, teachings, and philosophy of Lord Buddha.

U Kyaw Bohne Naing, chairman and president of the Union of Myanmar Travel Association, members of the Bodhgaya Pilgrimage Working Committee, representatives of the All Myanmar Gorkha Hindu Religious Organisation, the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Myanmar, Nepali professionals working in Myanmar, and members of the Nepali community were present on the occasion.
