KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has directed Central Committee members to formulate a 35-year plan for the future, saying that political progress cannot be achieved merely by discussing the misgovernance of the past 35 years.
Concluding the first series of the party’s “Policy, Organization, and Leadership” program for RSP Central Committee members in Kathmandu on Sunday, Lamichhane emphasized the need to step up and fulfill the responsibilities entrusted by the nation.
“Do not just talk about the past 35 years; bring a plan for the next 35 years,” Lamichhane said. “Whatever past leadership could do, they did—we must thank them. The plan for the work to be done in the next 35 years now rests on our shoulders.”
Stating that people have placed full trust in the RSP by establishing it as the country’s largest party, Lamichhane said that everyone must remain committed to meeting public expectations.
“Integrity, qualification, and competence are necessary in politics. Politics should not be used for personal gain. No other country has seen so many young people in party leadership, parliament and ministerial posts,” he said. “If we lose our way today, it will send a message worldwide that youth leadership is ineffective.”
Emphasizing that RSP leaders and cadres must visit villages to focus on upcoming local body elections, Lamichhane said that the government’s works and accomplishments must be effectively communicated to the public.
“We must initiate efforts now to build a strong presence in local government. Currently, not only is the government strong, but the opposition is also strong. Therefore, we must focus on the people’s works,” Lamichhane said. “If we fail to fulfill the dreams the country has seen for years, the nation will slip into despair.”
Stating that the party has been holding the government accountable, Lamichhane added that connecting ministers directly with the public through the party office represents a new practice.
He, however, maintained that the RSP will not act outside established procedure. “The political documents, procedures, guidelines and regulations approved by the party will be followed to the letter. We cannot operate outside procedure,” he said.
