
KATHMANDU: Morris Garages (MG) has launched its latest electric car – the MG S5 – in the Nepali market.
According to Paramount Motors, the authorized distributor for MG in Nepal, the car, marketed as a mid-size crossover, is the successor to the popular MG ZS EV and comes loaded with cutting-edge technology, enhanced performance and a host of premium features tailored for modern EV enthusiasts.
The S5 EV is available in two distinct variants – Comfort and Deluxe. Both variants are equipped with a 49kWh battery and a powerful 99kW motor, while another deluxe variant comes with extended battery capacity of 62kWh. MG S5 EV equipped with 49kWh battery and 99kW motor in comfort and deluxe variant are available for Rs 4.399 million and Rs 4.999 million respectively, while MG S5 EV equipped with 62kWh of battery comes with a price tag of Rs 5.499. The trim with 49.1 kWh battery offers a WLTP range of 340 km and CLTC range of 425 km, while the one with 62.2 kWh battery offers a WLTP range of 430 Km and CLTC range of 525 km, according to MG.
The S5 EV is built on the Modular Scalable Platform (MSP), the same architecture used in the MG4 EV hatchback and the Cyberster electric roadster. Positioned as a competitor to models like the BYD Atto 3 and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV, the S5 EV aims to strengthen MG’s foothold in Nepal’s electric SUV segment with its enhanced range, spacious design and segment-first features.
The car has a 12.3-inch digital driver display paired with a 15.6-inch central touchscreen infotainment system, running MG’s latest iSMART software. It has vegan leather upholstery (for luxury trim) with heated front seats and a six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. Wireless charging pad, 360-degree surround-view camera, keyless entry and push-button start and panoramic sunroof (in luxury trim) are the other features of the car. It supports up to 90 KW DC charging, achieving a 10-80% charge in approximately 30 minutes. AC charging, by a 7 kW charger, takes around 7-9 hours for a full charge.
