Lumbini Conclave concludes disseminating message of peace and non-violence

LUMBINI: Participants of the Lumbini Conclave have said that Buddha’s teachings can be embraced as the power of diplomacy for peace and prosperity around the world.

Addressing a special ceremony on the Mayadevi Temple premises in the Lumbini Peace Garden on Friday, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha said initiatives can be taken from the Buddha’s birthplace to resolve various types of conflicts that are emerging in the world. Stating that Buddha’s teachings are scientific and practical, Shrestha said the Lumbini Conclave should succeed in conveying the message of peace, compassion, and non-violence to the world. “Buddha’s teaching of knowing oneself is becoming more indispensable in today’s world,” he added.

Also speaking on the occasion, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Hit Bahadur Tamang said he was hopeful that the Lumbini Conclave organized at Buddha’s birthplace will become successful in disseminating the message of world peace. “The government will complete the remaining works of the Lumbini Master Plan and development in the Greater Lumbini Area with priority,” he added.

Vice Chairman of Lumbini Development Trust said Buddhism’s philosophy will make an important contribution to promoting peace and non-violence in the world.

Non-residential ambassadors of 19 countries for Nepal, honorary consuls, and consul generals of different countries for Nepal, high-ranking government officials, and Buddhist scholars participated in the conclave.

The conclave was organized jointly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Honorary Consular Corp-Nepal (HCC-N).

HCC-N Dean Vishnu Kumar Agrawal said the Conclave has become successful in conveying an important message to move towards the path of prosperity through peace by abandoning conflict and non-violence from Buddha’s birthplace.

Non-resident ambassadors for Nepal from countries like Austria, Bulgaria, Estonia, Czech Republic, Mauritius, Mongolia, Indonesia, Seychelles, Tanzania, Serbia, Slovenia, Cyprus, Ireland, Spain, Latvia, Costa Rica, Poland, Dominican Republic, and Romania, among others, participated in the conclave.
