KATHMANDU: The government led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Saturday unveiled important achievements of its first 100 days in office.
Government spokesperson Sashmit Pokharel made the achievements public at a press conference at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar.
The first achievement highlighted by Pokharel was the reduction in the number of federal ministries.
In line with the election manifesto of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), the number of ministries has been reduced to 18, Pokharel said. He added that the downsizing is expected to save the state treasury around Rs 20 billion annually.
Pokharel also said the government had reduced expenditures and improved administrative efficiency by abolishing and restructuring various state bodies. He added that reform measures, including the dissolution of trade unions and student organizations affiliated with political parties, had sent a positive message.
He claimed that the government has achieved 87.2% progress in the implementation of its 100-point governance reform agenda. “Of the 100 action items, 70 have already been fully implemented,” Pokharel claimed. “Seventeen items have achieved more than 80% progress, while the progress of the remaining 13 stands at below 60%.”
After assuming office on March 27, the majority government of the RSP announced the introduction of a results-based governance system aimed at making public administration more results-oriented, effective, measurable and accountable.
“During the first 100 days, the government recommended disciplinary action against 6,145 civil servants. Similarly, 787 government offices and development projects had been monitored and inspected during the period,” Pokharel said.
