KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Kumar Thapa has called on party leaders and cadres to move forward by setting aside past disputes to strengthen unity within the party.
Addressing a Koshi Province-level election review program in Biratnagar on Wednesday, Thapa said he was committed to uniting the party, and urged leaders and cadres to forget old conflicts and work together.
Thapa’s comments have come at a time when leaders of the Sher Bahadur Deuba have been insisting that it is the party leadership’s responsibility to maintain unity.
The Supreme Court last week upheld the Election Commission’s decision to recognize the new Central Working Committee elected through the party’s Special General Convention held in January. The apex court also dismissed the petition, challenging the Election Commission’s decision registered by the Deuba faction.
Thapa said leadership at all levels must play an active role in bringing back to the party leaders and cadres who became dissatisfied during the elections. “We need to make special efforts to attract youth to the party,” Thapa said, adding that the party would launch a special campaign to connect people under the age of 30 with the Nepali Congress.
Thapa also said that NC would support the government’s positive work while strongly criticizing its weaknesses both in parliament and on the streets.
