CFRD bringing Chinese tea processing technology, machinery to Nepal

KATHMANDU: The China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD) is bringing Chinese tea processing technology and machinery to Nepal to support the tea production conditions of Nepali farmers.

Issuing a statement on Wednesday, CFRD announced that the machinery being brought to Nepal was inaugurated during a ceremony at Sichuan Dengyao Machinery Equipment Co Ltd in Leshan City of China’s Chengdu province on Tuesday. “Chen Yingli, Deputy Director of Leshan Economic Cooperation and Foreign Affairs Bureau; Chaman Singh Budhathoki Magar, Deputy Consul of the Consulate General of Nepal in Chengdu; Secretary of the Party Branch and General Manager of Sichuan Dengyao Machinery Equipment Co. Ltd, Li Dengyao; and Zou Zhiqiang, Director of CFRD Nepal Office attended the launching ceremony,” the statement added.

On the occasion, Zou Zhiqiang, CFRD Nepal Director, made a presentation on Nepal Tea Project to the Chinese and foreign guests.

Speaking on the occasion, Ma Jia, the deputy consul general of Nepal in Chengdu, thanked CFRD for its poverty alleviation efforts in Nepal over the past nine years. He also thanked CFRD for taking China’s tea processing technology and machinery to Nepal to help improve the tea production conditions and create opportunities for the tea industry in Nepal. “We hope that CFRD will also organize training for Nepali tea farmers so that the machinery being transported to Nepal will is beneficial for them,” he added.

According to the statement, tea and related agricultural machinery from Sichuan Dengyao Machinery Equipment Co Ltd have been exported to Laos and neighboring Southeast Asian countries since as early as 2000.

The Nepal Tea Project is one of CFRD’s 2023 Overseas Rural Revitalization Innovation Projects. It aims to support Nepali tea processing and improve tea quality through technical intervention. It will assist in the processing of tea leaves produced by nearly three million tea plants planted by more than 160 tea farmers in Kimtang village, Nuwakot district, and enhance the quality of tea produced in the region.
