Five killed in school bus accident in Pokhara

POKHARA: Five people, including four students, were killed when a bus crashed in Sera near Kalika in Pokhara-28 in Kaski on Friday morning.

The bus, which was carrying students from Majhthana in Kaski to Kalika Boarding School in Pokhara-28, met with an accident at around 6:30 a.m.

“Nineteen people on board were rescued and taken to hospital. Of them, five died,” DSP Birendra Kumar Paswan of the District Police Office, Kaski, said.

The identities of the deceased have yet to be established.

According to local resident Bishwaraj Tripathi, who was involved in the rescue operation, students in grades 8, 9 and 10 were travelling to school for morning tuition classes when the accident occurred. The bus plunged about 200 meters down a steep slope, he added.

Another local resident, Madhavraj Adhikari, who reached the scene soon after learning of the accident, said the crash site was not visible from the road. “The bus had fallen onto a steep, grassy slope. Many students looked seriously injured.”
