KATHMANDU: Three candidates have registered their nominations for the post of president at the ongoing 15th General Convention of the Nepali Congress (NC).
Incumbent President Gagan Kumar Thapa, along with Shyam Krishna Khadki and Kishor Singh Rathore, registered their nominations for the post of president on Tuesday.
According to Raju Katuwal, member secretary of the party’s Central Election Committee, three nominations have been registered for president, one each for senior vice president and vice president (women), nine for vice president (open) and five for vice president (inclusive), eight for general secretary (open), and three for general secretary (women).
As per the recent amendments to the Nepali Congress Statute, 1961, the NC will have a 297-member Central Working Committee with 25 office-bearers. The Central Working Committee will nominate one treasurer and four joint general secretaries, including one reserved for women, while the remaining 20 will be elected.
Incumbent Vice President Bishwa Prakash Sharma is the only candidate for the post of senior vice president, while Chandra Bhandari, Devraj Chalise, Surendra Raj Pandey, Madhu Acharya, Minendra Rijal, Deepak Giri, Dhanraj Gurung, Gobinda Bhattarai, and Chandra Mohan Yadav have filed nominations for the two posts of vice president (open).
Meanwhile, incumbent Vice President Pushpa Bhusal is the only candidate for the post of vice president (women).
Similarly, Jeevan Pariyar, Binod Chaudhary, Farmullah Mansoor, Sita Gurung and Ranjeet Karna are in the race for one post of vice president (inclusive).
Likewise, Pradeep Paudel, Guru Raj Ghimire, Uday Shumsher Rana, Amar Singh Pun, Nain Singh Mahar, Shankar Tiwari, Sunil Sharma and Santosh Upadhyaya have filed nominations for two posts of general secretary (open). Dila Sangroula, Dina Upadhyaya and Rita Khanal have registered their candidacies for the post of general secretary (women).
Jagadish Narsingh KC, Manoj Mani Acharya and Shubharam Basnet have filed nominations for the post of joint general secretary (Khas/Arya), while Bahadur Singh Lama and Tara Man Gurung have registered their candidacies for joint general secretary (indigenous nationalities).
Likewise, Mahendra Yadav, Ajay Chaurasiya, Nagina Yadav, Kiran Yadav, Abhishek Pratap Shah, Ram Paltan Sah, Manish Kumar Mishra and Muktakumari Yadav have registered nominations for joint general secretary (Madhesh).
Similarly, Narendra Paswan, Prakash Rasaili, Laxmi Pariyar and Man Bahadur Nepali have filed their candidacies for the post of joint general secretary (Dalit), while Tejulal Chaudhary, Yogendra Chaudhary and Surendra Prasad Chaudhary are in the race for joint general secretary (Tharu).
Nagendra Kumal Yogesh Gauchan and Ang Gelu Sherpa have filed nominations for joint general secretary (marginal/dsability), while Firosh Alam, Abdul Satar and Ahatar Kamal Musalman are in the race for joint secretary (Muslim).
Amrit Aryal, Ramhari Khatiwada, Ajaya Babu Shiwakoti, Dinesh Koirala, Bimal Raj Chhetri, Devendra Raj Kandel and Dilliram Subedi have registered nominations for joint general secretary (open). Likewise, Karna Bahadur Budha, Janak Raj Giri, Min Bham, Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, Rajan Kunwar, Jivan Bahadur Bista and Ram Bahadur Bista are in the race for joint general secretary (backward).
Nanu Bastola and Pratima Gautam are in the race for joint general secretary (women).
He added that the compilation of details for other positions is currently underway.
