Robbery suspect Majhi defendant in 27 robbery, theft cases: Police

KATHMANDU: Police have said that Aryan Majhi, arrested from the Kandaghari area of Kathmandu on Wednesday night, is a defendant in 27 robbery and theft cases.

A police team deployed from the District Police Range, Kathmandu, arrested Majhi, 26, from the Kandaghari area at around 9:45 pm while investigating a series of motorcycle thefts and robberies targeting gold jewelry, valuables and cash in different parts of the Kathmandu Valley.

According to police, Majhi attacked the team with a sharp weapon and attempted to flee when they tried to arrest him. Police took him into custody after firing one shot below his knee.

Police recovered two motorcycles allegedly used in the robberies, five fabricated number plates and a khukuri knife from the group.

Majhi, a permanent resident of Marin Rural Municipality-5 of Sindhuli, was found to have been arrested or implicated in 27 cases of robbery and theft registered at police offices in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Kavre.

Police say they also arrested Majhi’s two gang members—Rakesh Thing, 34, of Bakaiya Rural Municipality-5 and Manoj Kumar Moktan, 36, of Bakaiya Rural Municipality-7 of Makwanpur.

Thing rode as a pillion passenger on the motorcycle during the robberies, while Moktan rode in the front, police say.
