Indian Embassy signs MoUs for seven HIDCP projects worth Rs 473 million

KATHMANDU: The Embassy of India, Kathmandu, on Thursday signed agreements for seven High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs) worth Rs 473 million.

Issuing a statement, the embassy said these projects, funded under grant assistance from the Government of India, are in key sectors such as education, health, and agriculture, and will be implemented through local governments across different provinces.

The projects include the construction of cold storage facilities in Madhyabindu Municipality of Nawalparasi East and Laligurans Municipality of Tehrathum; a school building, hostel, and canteen for Janabal Secondary School in Gharapjhong Rural Municipality of Mustang, and new buildings for schools in Gauriganga Municipality of Kailali, Tripurasundari Municipality of Dolpa and Khajura Rural Municipality of Banke; and a birthing centre in Paroha Municipality of Rautahat.

According to the embassy, these projects will be executed by the concerned local governments in coordination with the relevant government agencies of Nepal.

Since 2003, India has supported a total of 598 HICDPs across the country, including the seven projects announced on Thursday. Of them, 506 projects have already been completed in sectors such as health, education, agriculture, drinking water, sanitation, connectivity, and public infrastructure.

“As close neighbours, India and Nepal are engaged in wide-ranging and multi-sectoral cooperation. The implementation of HICDPs reflects the continued support of the Indian government in strengthening the efforts of Nepal in promoting growth and development, apart from augmenting infrastructure in priority sectors,” the embassy added in the statement.
