KATHMANDU: Minister for Finance Dr Swarnim Wagle has assured that community school teachers will receive the 10% monthly incentive allowance announced in the budget.

The budget implementation directive issued by the Financial Comptroller General’s Office (FCGO) excludes teachers from the list of government employees eligible for the incentive allowance.

Wagle made the assurances during a meeting with Ramesh Babu Bhattarai, president of the Tanahun chapter of the Nepal Teachers’ Association, at the finance ministry on Wednesday.

Bhattarai said the discussion with Minister Wagle was positive. “I informed the finance minister that community school teachers had been left out of the provision for a 10% monthly incentive allowance in the FCGO’s directive,” Bhattarai said. “However, Minister Wagle assured me that teachers will also receive the incentive allowance as announced in the budget.”

Clause 9 of the FCGO’s budget implementation directive for the fiscal year 2026/27 states that civil servants, health service employees, parliamentary service staff, personnel of the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and the National Investigation Department are entitled to a 10% incentive allowance as per Clause 61(J) of the budget speech.

However, the directive does not mention community school teachers.

Bhattarai said the finance minister indicated that the government would take the necessary steps to ensure that community school teachers also receive the 10% monthly incentive allowance.
