KATHMANDU: Sankata Football Club has urged the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) and the National Sports Council (NSC) to resolve issues related to work permits for foreign players and resume postponed leagues at the earliest.
Speaking at a press conference in Kathmandu on Monday, the A-Division club said the ongoing uncertainty has put its significant financial investment at risk. The club called on the National Sports Council (NSC) and the All Nepal Football Association to immediately address the issue and restart the leagues.
Issuing separate notices on March 19, ANFA said the remaining matches of the Men’s National League and Martyrs Memorial Women’s ‘A’ Division League have been postponed until further notice due to technical reasons. ANFA decided to suspend the leagues after the Department of Immigration launched an investigation against seven clubs for fielding foreign players sans labor permits.
Sankata officials also expressed concern over reports that the national and women’s football leagues were suspended due to the participation of foreign players on tourist visas without proper work permits.
Sankata President Indraman Tuladhar said that all foreign players of his club had been formally contracted in accordance with competition regulations.
He added that the ongoing dispute between NSC and ANFA has had a broader impact on Nepali football.
The club has demanded the immediate issuance of work permits for foreign players and has also sought financial compensation if the suspension of leagues is prolonged.
