KATHMANDU: Jude Bellingham scored twice as England came from behind to defeat Norway 2-1 in the third quarterfinal of the 2026 World Cup in Miami early on Sunday and book a place in the semifinals.
Norway took the lead in the 36th minute through Andreas Schjelderup. He collected a pass from the left wing and fired a curler from the edge of the box into the top corner, with many expecting a cross toward Erling Haaland in the penalty area.
England restored parity in the second minute of first-half stoppage time. Elliot Anderson drove forward before finding Anthony Gordon on the left flank. Gordon delivered a cross into the box, where Jude Bellingham controlled the ball, dribbled past Norwegian defenders and fired home to make the score 1-1.
Norway threatened to regain the lead after the break, but saw a goal disallowed and later hit the crossbar.
Bellingham completed England’s comeback three minutes into extra time. Orjan Nyland spilled a powerful shot from Morgan Rogers and Bellingham reacted quickest to slide in and score the winner.
The victory puts England one step closer to reach their first World Cup final since 1966 when they lifted the trophy.
England will face either Argentina or Switzerland in the semifinal.
