KATHMANDU: Locals have discovered remains believed to be of one of the buses swept into the Trishuli River by a landslide in the Simaltal area along the Muglin–Narayanghat road about one and a half years ago.
A wheelhub and body parts were found at Dwondrangbesi in Anbukhaireni Rural Municipality–5 of Tanahun after the fishing net of a local fisherman got stuck in the river. When locals dug at the spot and noticed parts resembling a bus, they informed the police.
Police say debris found at the site is blue in color. As the profile matches the color of a bus operated by Ganapati Travels that went missing at Simaltal, police suspect it could be the same vehicle.
The remains were located about 200 meters downstream on the Tanahun side of the river from where the bus was swept into the Trishuli. Police, however, say the vehicle’s identity can be confirmed only after it is fully excavated.
Two buses operated by Ganapati Travels and Angel Deluxe, carrying around 65 passengers, were swept into the river by a landslide on the night of July 12. Of them, 11 bodies were recovered, and three people were injured. Fifty-one are still missing.
