
KATHMANDU: Nepal and India have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the development of the water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) sector.
Minister for Water Supply Pradeep Yadav and India’s Minister of Jal Shakti, CR Patil signed the MoU in New Delhi, India, on Monday, according to RSS news agency.
The agreement seeks to promote friendly cooperation between Nepal and Nepal, strengthen inter-governmental collaboration in the WASH sector and address Nepal’s concerns and efforts regarding water security. It also aims to ensure access to safe drinking water in Nepal and improve the livelihoods of people in a secure environment.
The MoU also includes provisions for groundwater management, technology and information exchange, rainwater harvesting and measurement, technical partnerships, and technical and training support to the Nepal government.
Nepali Ambassador to India Dr Shankar Prasad Sharma, Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava, and Secretaries of India’s Ministry of Jal Shakti, Ashok Mina and Devashree Murkhajee; and Director General of Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Management, Ram Kumar Shrestha, among others, were also present on the occasion.
Minister Yadav is scheduled to return to Nepal tomorrow, Tuesday.
