KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index gained 20.67 points and closed the third trading session of the week at 1,850.33 points on Wednesday.
Although the market had experienced marginal growth of 1.39 points on Monday, it lost 23.82 points on Tuesday.
The market opened for trading at 1,830.11 points on Wednesday, initially causing concerns that the benchmark index would extend its losses. However, the index recovered from the initial setback and eventually ended the day 1.13% higher.
Except for the Mutual Fund sub-index, which posted a marginal loss, all other sub-indices posted gains on the day. The Hotels & Tourism sub-index registered the highest gain of 3.49%, followed by the Hydropower group, which rose by 2.35%.
Share prices of 195 companies appreciated during the session, while 40 declined, and three remained unchanged. Sonapur Minerals and Oil Ltd registered the highest turnover of the day, with shares worth Rs 107.6 million traded. Prime Commercial Bank Ltd Promoter Shares and Muktinath Bikas Bank Ltd Promoter Shares were next on the list, with turnovers of Rs 102 million and Rs 52.25 million, respectively.
The daily turnover on the bourse increased to Rs 1.08 billion, compared to Rs 936.06 million on Tuesday, with 4.21 million units of shares traded.
