KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index snapped a two-day losing streak on Wednesday, posting a modest gain of 4.79 points to close at 2,667.97.
The benchmark index fluctuated throughout the trading session. Although the index briefly recovered after hitting an intraday low of 2,653.05 points, it soon lost momentum and fell back into the red. However, a late buying spree ensured that the index ended the session in the green.
Despite the gain, market breadth remained negative as 143 stocks declined and 122 advanced, while 11 remained unchanged. Total turnover improved to Rs 4.41 billion, with 10.07 million units traded through 61,286 transactions.
Among individual stocks, Solu Hydropower Ltd posted the highest gain of 14.99%. Shikhar Power Development Company and Ridi Power Company were next with gains of 5.91% and 5.79%, respectively. In contrast, Everest Colors Ltd, which has been hitting the 15% positive circuit for consecutive sessions, logged the largest loss of 9.03% on Wednesday. 9% Kamana Sewa Deventure 2087 and 9.5% Manjushree Finance Debenture 2085 were next with losses of 8.77% and 6.02%, respectively.
Solu Hydropower Ltd topped the turnover chart with total transactions of Rs 581.08 million. Ridi Power Company and Khanikhola Hydropower Company were next with turnovers of Rs 348.49 million and Rs 277.74 million, respectively.
Five trading groups posted gains on Wednesday, while the remaining eight ended the session in the red. The Trading sub-index posted the highest gain of 1.6%. On the other hand, the Development Bank sub-index posted the biggest loss of 0.5%.
