Explosion at Rasuwa army barracks kills one, injures six

KATHMANDU: At least one person was killed and six others, including two Nepali Army personnel, were injured in an explosion at Mangchet in Ama Chhodingmo Rural Municipality-4, Rasuwa, on Monday, police said.

According to the District Police Office, Rasuwa, the identity of the deceased has not been established yet.

“Three injured have been airlifted to Kathmandu for treatment, while the other three are receiving treatment in Rasuwa,” said Inspector Dilli Raj Sapkota, information officer at the District Police Office, Rasuwa.

Sapkota said police were investigating the cause of the explosion. “Our first focus was on rescuing the injured. Now, we will begin an investigation into what caused the explosion,” he added.

Nepali Army Spokesperson Brigadier General Rajaram Basnet said the explosion occurred during the disposal of expired explosives at an army barracks. “The explosives were procured for blasting boulders for several hydropower and road projects in the area,” Basnet said.

“The injured were airlifted to Kathmandu by a Nepal Army rescue flight,” Basnet said.
