KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balendra Shah and Chief of Army Staff Ashok Raj Sigdel held a meeting at Singha Durbar on Monday.
According to Nepali Army Spokesperson Brigadier General Rajaram Basnet, the meeting was part of a regular interaction between the prime minister and the army chief.
Speaking to Himal Press over the phone, Basnet said it was normal for Sigdel to meet Shah as the prime minister also holds the defense portfolio.
“It was a regular meeting between the prime minister and the army chief. Since the prime minister is also the defense minister, it is normal for the army chief to meet him,” Basnet said.
Basent said CoAS Sigdel briefed the prime minister on the status of the search and rescue operations that the Nepal Army has been conducting following the August 26 Bhotekoshi floods.
Sigdel also briefed the prime minister and defense minister on his recent visit to China. During the visit, Sigdel paid courtesy calls on China’s defense minister and senior military officials. He also visited the National Defense University and other Chinese military training and educational institutions and units, and also attended the 13th Beijing Xiangshan Forum.
Prime Minister Shah is scheduled to leave for the United States on Tuesday to address the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
