Nepse down 21.15 points as market loses for second straight session

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its losing streak for a second consecutive trading session on Tuesday, shedding 21.15 points to close at 2,663.18.

The benchmark index had snapped a four-day losing streak on Friday, the last trading day of the previous week, raising hopes of a market recovery. However, those expectations proved short-lived as the market returned to negative territory on Monday and continued its downward trend on the second trading day of the week.

The index moved into negative territory right after trading began on Tuesday morning. Although the benchmark Nepse index made multiple recovery attempts during the session, it remained firmly in the red and ultimately closed 0.78% lower.

Market breadth was negative during the session, with 213 stocks declining, 58 advancing, and 3 remaining unchanged. Total turnover also fell to Rs 4.07 billion with 10.76 million units traded through 52,272 transactions.

Among individual stocks, Everest Colors Ltd continued its winning run, hitting the 15% positive circuit. Khanikhola Hydropower Company and Joshi Hydropower were the other largest gainers as their respective share prices went up by 10.075 and 5.26%, respectively. In contrast, Saptakoshi Development Bank led the losing stocks with a loss of 13.43%. 10.25% KBL Debenture 2086 and 12% Goodwill Finance Ltd Debenture 2083 were next wth losses of 6.83% and 5.46%, respectively.

Khanikhola Hydropower Company topped the turnover chart on Tuesday with total transactions of Rs 406.69 million. Siddhartha Bank Ltd and National Hydropower Company Ltd were next with turnovers of Rs 167.77 million and Rs 165.7 million, respectively.

All trading groups ended the session in the red. The biggest loss came from the Manufacturing & Processing sub-index, which went down by 1.31%. Next were the Trading and Others sub-indices with losses of 1.19% and 1.04%, respectively.
