KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index slipped back into negative territory on Thursday, ending a brief recovery after snapping a two-day losing streak in the previous session.
The benchmark index fell 13.82 points to close at 2,654.15. Although the index moved into the green initially, hitting an intraday high of 2,676.40 points, it soon slid into the red and fell further to ultimately end the session 0.51% lower.
Market breadth was also negative on Thursday, with 202 stocks declining, 64 advancing and 10 remaining unchanged. Despite the Nepse index’s decline, total turnover slightly improved to Rs. 4.62 billion, with 10.8 million shares traded through 60,381 transactions.
Among individual stocks, Upper Lohorekhola Hydropower Company Ltd. hit the 15% positive circuit. Next on the list were Kalanga Hydropower Ltd. and NIBL Samriddhi Fund-2, with gains of 4.62% and 4.05%, respectively. On the other hand, mutual fund units led the losing stocks. LS Horizon 12 posted the biggest loss of 6.5%. Maga Mutual Fund-1 and Laxmi Value Fund-2 were next, with losses of 5.61% and 5.1%, respectively.
Except for the Trading sub-index, which posted a nominal gain of 0.59%, all sub-indices posted losses. The biggest loss came from the Manufacturing and Processing sub-index, which closed 0.88% lower. Next were the Banking and Non-life Insurance sub-indices, with losses of 0.84% and 0.73%, respectively.
