KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress has decided to seek clarification from its former acting president Purna Bahadur Khadka.
A meeting of the party’s Disciplinary Committee held at the party’s central office in Sanepa on Wednesday concluded that Khadka had engaged in activities contrary to the party’s statute and decided to ask him to furnish an explanation within seven days.
Khadka has been issuing statements as ‘Acting President’ of the party even though the Election Commission (EC) has validated the new Central Working Committee elected by the party’s Special General Convention under Gagan Kumar Thapa. Leaders aligned with former President Sher Bahadur Deuba have challenged the EC’s decision at the Supreme Court.
The meeting was chaired by the Committee’s coordinator Taraman Gurung.
According to a statement issued by the committee, the meeting found that Khadka had repeated similar actions even though he had been warned earlier.
The party had previously cautioned Khadka on April 7 for issuing an unauthorized statement using the party’s fake letterhead. The committee said that a similar act was repeated on April 13.
The committee stated that issuing a press release using a fake letterhead while claiming to hold an official party position violates Clause 34, Sub-clause 8 (d) of the party’s statute.
The meeting also decided to extend the deadline for filing complaints related to disciplinary violations by party members during the 2026 House of Representatives elections. The deadline, which was previously set until mid-April, has now been extended until mid-May. The committee has said that complaints received after the expiry of the new deadline will not be entertained.
