Krishnabhir road section to open for two-way traffic from Thursday

KATHMANDU: Work to open a new track at Krishnabhir along the Nagdhunga-Muglin section of the Prithvi Highway has been completed.

According to the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, two-way traffic will be allowed on the track from Thursday. It also said that a trial run on the track was successfully held on Sunday.

The road at Krishnabhir caved in after constant erosion by the flooded Trishuli River on August 30.

Following the disruption, the ministry conducted a rapid study with technical support from the Department of Roads and the Nepal Geotechnical Society. After the study, experts recommended cutting into the hillside above the existing road at Krishnabhir and constructing a new track of about 250 meters as the most suitable option.

Around 50 workers worked continuously for 12 to 16 hours a day to complete the track, according to the ministry.

Work is currently underway to gravel the road, construct drainage and further strengthen the section. The government said it plans to complete the graveling by Wednesday and open the road to two-way traffic from Thursday morning.
