KATHMANDU: The dissident faction of the Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to move ahead with its own schedule for the 15th General Convention.

A meeting of the faction held at the residence of former party President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Monday afternoon concluded that decisions taken by the establishment faction on Sunday evening were unacceptable. It also decided that it won’t participate in the convention organized by the party establishment.

NC’s Central Work Execution Committee on Sunday decided to allow members of the Central Working Committee formed after the 14th General Convention to participate in the 15th General Convention in the same capacity.

“There is no situation in which we can participate in the convention organized by the establishment faction based on the decisions made on Sunday evening. Therefore, we have decided to move ahead with the convention process in our own way,” a leader who attended the meeting said.

The dissident faction leaders have been maintaining that their campaign is not to get any position in the party but rather to save the party.

After the meeting, Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, a dissident faction leader, said the meeting had held informal discussions on the decision taken by the party’s establishment faction. “We will make pubic our official position through a press meet at 4 p.m.,” Mahat said.
