KATHMANDU: A meeting of the Central Work Execution Committee of the Nepali Congress (NC) has unanimously decided to field Bhishmaraj Angdembe as the unanimous candidate for the parliamentary party leader in the House of Representatives.
According to General Secretary Gururaj Ghimire, the meeting held at the party’s central office in Sanepa on Monday endorsed a proposal by President Gagan Kumar Thapa to pick Angdembe, who was elected under the proportional representation system, for the position.
Angdembe has contested the House of Representatives election five times from his home constituency in Panchthar. He faced defeats in parliamentary elections in 1995 and 1999, as well as in the Constituent Assembly (CA) in 2008. Angdembe, however, was elected from Panchthar in the Second Consecutive Election in 2013.
Ghimire also said that the parliamentary party meeting scheduled for later on Monday will unanimously elect Angdembe as the parliamentary party leader.
Earlier, the party had formed a facilitation committee under Vice President Bishwa Prakash Sharma after three lawmakers staked their claim for the position. The committee, which also had two general secretaries as members, decided to submit a proposal to pick Angdembe as parliamentary party leader.
