KATHMANDU: Acting US Ambassador to Nepal Megan Boldin paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Balendra Shah at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar on Tuesday.
During the meeting, Shah expressed gratitude to the US government for its solidarity with Nepal and support during the difficult situation caused by the recent disaster.
Prime Minister Balendra Shah is scheduled to travel to the US on September 22 to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Stating that the incident was caused by the impacts of climate change, the prime minister stressed the need to strengthen global cooperation and collective efforts to reduce climate-related disaster risks and address their impacts.
The US government assigned Boldin, who was serving in Bangladesh, to Nepal as acting US ambassador on September 8.
The prime minister also discussed Nepal’s tourism potential and opportunities for mutual benefit through the development of the tourism sector. He said Nepal would always welcome investment from the United States.
During the meeting, Acting Ambassador Boldin expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and property caused by the floods in Rasuwa and conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and affected communities.
She said the US government stood in solidarity with the Government of Nepal and the Nepali people during the difficult time.
Boldin also said the US government was ready to provide necessary support and cooperate in relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts.
