KATHMANDU: Nepali Communist Party (NCP) Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal has admitted that the left movement weakened because parties and leaders ignored class struggle, ideology and long-term strategy in the past.
Speaking at a program organized by the party’s Kathmandu Valley Provincial Committee on Sunday, Dahal said the party had become overly focused on short-term tactics. “We ignored class struggle, ideology and strategy, and became absorbed in day-to-day tactics. I must take the main responsibility for that, as I myself have served as prime minister three times,” he said. “At times, I even feel like asking everyone to remove me.”
He also expressed a commitment to learning from past mistakes and moving forward by strengthening the party ideologically and strategically.
Dahal accused the government of moving in a direction that weakens the constitution and the federal democratic republic. “The government is attempting to interfere with the rights secured through the constitution by women, Dalits, indigenous nationalities and other communities in the name of good governance and development,” he added.
He further alleged that the government was working to evict landless settlements, weaken student unions, restrict trade union rights and make irresponsible statements on border-related issues.
Calling the current government misguided, Dahal urged party leaders and cadres to become active against it. “There is a need for everyone to rise together to protect the constitution, the federal democratic republic, and the rights secured by oppressed communities,” he said.
