Govt decides to dismiss 15 honorary consuls general, consuls stationed abroad

KATHMANDU: The government has decided to relieve 15 honorary consuls general and consuls serving abroad of their duties.

A cabinet meeting held on Thursday took the decision, according to Government Spokesperson Sasmit Pokharel.

“The cabinet decided to dismiss 15 honorary consuls general and consuls stationed abroad as proposed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” Pokharel told reporters after the meeting.

According to the foreign ministry, consuls/consuls general in California, Massachusetts and Seattle of the US; Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney of Australia; New Zealand; Klang Valley of Malaysia; Jakarta of Indonesia; Rehovot of Israel; Nicosia of Cyprus; North Rhine-Westphalia, Bremen and Lower Saxony of Germany; Warsaw of Poland; Slovenia; and Malta have been relieved for their responsibilities.

The meeting also decided to request President Ramchandra Paudel to address the meeting of the federal parliament scheduled for 4 pm on May 11.

The Cabinet meeting also decided to approve the tabling of Protocol No. 29 of 2014 to the International Labour Organization Forced Labour Convention, 1930, and Convention No. 81 of 1947 in the Federal Parliament for ratification. The government believes these decisions will help further strengthen international labour standards and the labour inspection system.
