KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balendra Shah, popularly known as Balen, has directed vice-chancellors of different universities to immediately implement the decision to dismantle party-affiliated student and staff organizations operating within universities, health institutions, and educational bodies.
He said this during a meeting with vice-chancellors from universities and academies across the country on Monday.
Speaking at the meeting, Nepal Sanskrit University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Dhaneshwar Nepal said he had faced threats while attempting to dismantle student organisations within his university.
In response, Prime Minister Shah urged vice-chancellors to report to the concerned ministry or his secretariat if they encounter any
security issues in implementing the decision. He assured that the government is committed to providing all necessary support, including security arrangements, and said the police administration would fulfil its duties.
Prime Minister Shah said no law would obstruct the removal of such partisan organisational structures.
He added that no party flags, influence, or affiliated organisations would be allowed in sacred spaces such as hospitals, campuses, and schools. Shah said those wishing to engage in politics should step away from their professional responsibilities and commit fully to political activities.
During the discussion, Shah also instructed universities to strictly adhere to the academic calendar and to publish examination results within a month.
Also speaking at the meeting, Minister for Education, Science and Technology Sashmit Pokharel said the ministry has already issued directives to abolish structures of organisations affiliated with political parties.
